Thalassoma hardwicke
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Sixbar Wrasse (Thalassoma hardwicke) is a boldly patterned Indo-Pacific species featuring a yellow body with six distinct dark vertical bars and a colourful, patterned head. An active, fast-swimming species that patrols exposed reef crests in the wild, it is best suited to larger aquariums with strong flow. Wild-caught specimens are infrequent in the European trade, making it a valued species for wrasse collectors.
Provide a large aquarium (350L+) with high turnover and good water movement. Feed mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and quality frozen marine preparations 2–3 times daily. Wraps itself in mucus cocoon to sleep on the substrate — provide a fine sand sleeping area. Semi-aggressive towards similar-sized fish and smaller, passive species; introduce as last addition. Requires a tight lid — strong jumper.
