Steatocranus tinanti
Also known as: Slender Buffalo-head Cichlid, Tinanti Cichlid
Origin: Central Africa (Congo River)
Steatocranus tinanti is found in the rapids and fast-flowing sections of the Congo River, adapted to the same rheophilic lifestyle as S. casuarius. Unlike its more famous relative, it lacks a pronounced forehead hump in males, giving it a sleeker profile. It is cave-spawning and similarly peaceful, making it an excellent choice for a Congo River biotope.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate to medium hardness; turnover of 10x tank volume recommended. Tank: Minimum 100L; Congo River biotope with smooth rocks, driftwood, and strong flow. Feeding: Cichlid pellets, frozen invertebrates, algae wafers, and occasional live foods. Behaviour: Bottom-hopping; cave-spawning pair defends territory but is manageable with space. Compatibility: Works well with Synodontis, Congo tetras, and rheophilic loaches.
