Mystus micracanthus
Also known as: Small-spined Catfish, Two-spot Catfish
Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia)
Mystus micracanthus is a smaller member of the Mystus genus found across Southeast Asian river systems in Thailand and Indonesia. Like its relatives, it is an opportunistic omnivore with a lively and inquisitive temperament. Its compact size and attractive pattern make it a popular choice for medium-sized aquariums, though it should be kept with fish of appropriate size.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–15). Tank: 80 L minimum; cover with driftwood, rocks, and plants; adequate hiding spots. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen meaty foods, bloodworm, and daphnia. Behaviour: Lively and active; primarily nocturnal; can be nippy with very small fish. Compatibility: Best with medium-sized tetras, barbs, loaches, and other robust community species.
