Meiacanthus smithi
Origin: Indian Ocean
Smith's Fang Blenny (Meiacanthus smithi) has a distinctive pale blue-grey body with a bold dark stripe running from the snout through the eye to the tail, giving it a sleek, streamlined appearance. A member of the venomous fang blenny group, it uses its grooved rear canines as a last-resort defence against predators, making it largely immune to predation and capable of swimming freely in the open water column. Active, hardy, and accepting of a wide range of prepared foods.
Provide live rock with small crevices for shelter and territory. Generally peaceful and reef-safe; seldom uses venom except when physically threatened. Feed mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, quality marine flake, and frozen omnivore blends. Can be kept singly or in pairs; generally non-aggressive towards other blennies unless competing for the same food. Suitable for nano and larger reef systems.
