Betta channoides
Also known as: Snakehead Betta, Channoides Fighter
Origin: Borneo (Kalimantan, Indonesia)
Betta channoides is a paternal mouthbrooder endemic to the peat swamp forests of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Its slightly flattened, elongated body shape is unusual among bettas and gives it a snakehead-like appearance. Like other mouthbrooding bettas, males and females can be kept as pairs or in a small group in a species tank.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 4.0–6.5, very soft acidic water, tannins beneficial. Tank: 30L minimum, heavily planted, leaf litter, dim lighting. Feeding: Live and frozen micro-invertebrates — daphnia, baby brine shrimp, bloodworm. Behaviour: Peaceful and secretive; mouthbrooding males temporarily refuse food. Compatibility: Species tank recommended; possible with other Kalimantan blackwater fish.
