Desmopuntius rhomboocellatus
Origin: Borneo (Indonesia, Malaysia)
Desmopuntius rhomboocellatus (Snakeskin Barb or Round-Banded Barb) is an exquisitely patterned species from the blackwater peat swamps of Borneo, featuring a series of interconnected dark markings that create a unique snakeskin-like or linked-ring pattern. A peaceful and elegant barb best displayed in groups against a dark background substrate, it brings a refined texture to soft-water biotope aquariums.
Maintain soft, acidic blackwater conditions (pH 4.5–6.5, GH <5) with some tannin staining. Provide dense planting with dark substrate to showcase the pattern. Keep in groups of 8 or more. Feed micro-sized live and frozen foods plus quality micro pellets. Avoid harsh lighting and neutral-to-hard water which dulls colouration and stresses the fish.
