Trichogaster pectoralis
Also known as: Snakeskin Gourami
Origin: Southeast Asia
The Snakeskin Gourami (Trichogaster pectoralis) is widely distributed across mainland Southeast Asia in slow rivers and flooded rice paddies. It is among the largest members of the genus and is commonly kept as a food fish in its native range. Its reticulated body pattern and peaceful temperament make it a fine display fish for large, well-planted aquariums.
Water: temp 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, adaptable to moderate hardness. Tank: minimum 200L; provide ample open swimming space and robust plants. Feeding: omnivore — accepts pellets, flakes, plant matter, live and frozen foods. Behaviour: peaceful; males may build bubble nests at the surface. Compatibility: good with other large peaceful fish; avoid very small or timid tankmates.
