Neocaridina zhangjiajiensis var. 'White'
Also known as: Snowball Shrimp, White Pearl Neocaridina
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from China
The Snowball Shrimp (Neocaridina zhangjiajiensis) is named for the distinctive round, white egg clusters carried by brooding females, which resemble small snowballs. Its body coloration ranges from pale cream to soft white, creating a delicate, understated appearance in planted aquariums. One of the hardier Neocaridina species available, Snowballs are prolific breeders and active biofilm grazers that adapt well to a wide range of tap water conditions. They are peaceful and community-friendly, coexisting well with small fish and other invertebrates. An excellent introductory species for those new to shrimp keeping.
Water: pH 6.5–8.0, TDS 150–400 ppm, temperature 18–28°C; adaptable to most tap water conditions. Tank: 20+ litres; planted; sponge or HOB filtration; fine substrate preferred. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, standard shrimp pellets. Breeding: Very prolific; round white eggs visible through carapace; juveniles independent from hatching. Compatibility: Peaceful; good community invertebrate; avoid large or predatory fish.
