Trigonostigma somphongsi
Also known as: Somphong's Rasbora
Origin: Thailand
Trigonostigma somphongsi is the most colourful and seldom-seen member of its genus, described from Thailand and rarely encountered in the trade. Its dark body patch is longer and less triangular than that of its relatives, and the overall body colouration is a richer, deeper red. Like other Trigonostigma species, it inhabits soft, acidic, shaded streams and is best housed in a blackwater biotope to bring out its full colouration.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft water essential (GH 1–8). Tank: 40 L minimum; leaf litter, tannin-stained water, dim lighting, dark substrate. Feeding: Omnivore — micro pellets, live Daphnia, baby brine shrimp, quality flake. Behaviour: Peaceful schooler; keep 8+ and avoid bold or larger companions. Compatibility: Best with similarly sized peaceful nano fish; not for busy community tanks.
