Also known as: Sparkling Gourami, Pygmy Gourami, Croaking Gourami
Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia)
Trichopsis pumila is the smallest of the croaking gouramis, native to shallow, densely vegetated rice paddies and streams of Southeast Asia. The body is covered in iridescent blue-green and red-purple spots. Males are able to produce audible croaking sounds using their pectoral fins against their swim bladder — a truly remarkable trait for a 4cm fish.

Feeding: Micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Daphnia, bloodworm. Behaviour: Mostly peaceful; males may spar; keep 1 male with 2+ females. Compatibility: Compatible with small rasboras, pygmy corys, and nano shrimp.
