Cichla temensis is the giant of the peacock bass family, a supreme predator built for open water. Its dramatic three-blotch pattern and golden speckled flanks make it one of the most visually arresting large fish available. Only suited to very large public or private aquariums due to its extraordinary growth potential.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: Minimum 1000L, very strong filtration, minimal décor for open swimming. Feeding: Carnivore; large live or dead fish, prawns, and large carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Aggressive apex predator; will consume any fish that fits in its mouth. Compatibility: Species-only or with equally large, robust fish; not a community species.
