Origin: Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo
Sphaerichthys osphromenoides, the Chocolate Gourami, is a delicate blackwater species with rich brown colouring and white/cream lateral banding. A mouthbrooder. Requires soft, acidic, tannin-stained water. Not for beginners but highly rewarding.
Blackwater tank. Temperature 25–28°C, pH 4.0–6.5, GH 0–5, KH 0–2. Tannins essential. Feed Artemia, micro-pellets, Daphnia. Sensitive to hard water and pollutants. Groups of 5+ reduces stress.
