Pseudosphromenus cupanus
Also known as: Spike-tailed Paradise Fish, Brown Spike-tailed Paradise Fish
Origin: India, Sri Lanka
Pseudosphromenus cupanus is found in slow-moving or stagnant waters of India and Sri Lanka, where it lurks among dense aquatic vegetation. Unlike many labyrinth fish it is genuinely peaceful, making it suitable for planted community tanks. Males construct bubble nests and display subtle iridescent colouration in golds and blues.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard; tolerant of a wide range. Tank: 60L minimum, heavily planted, floating plants, tight lid. Feeding: Omnivore — live/frozen invertebrates, quality flake and micro-pellets. Behaviour: Peaceful; males may display to each other without injury. Compatibility: Good with small-to-medium peaceful community fish.
