Pomacea bridgesii var. (golden form)
Also known as: Spike-topped Apple Snail Golden, Golden Apple Snail
Origin: South America (captive bred)
This golden colour variant of the Spike-topped Apple Snail features a rich yellow-gold body and a characteristically conical, pointed shell apex that distinguishes it from the more dome-shaped common apple snail. It is an active and engaging aquarium inhabitant that grazes constantly, though keepers should be aware that it will consume soft-leaved aquatic plants. It breathes air through a siphon and requires a gap at the water surface.
Water: 20–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18, KH 4–10; calcium-rich water for shell health. Tank: minimum 40 L, air gap at top for breathing siphon; provide driftwood and rocks. Feeding: algae wafers, blanched vegetables, sinking pellets, calcium supplements. Behaviour: active day and night; will eat soft plants; peaceful with fish. Compatibility: avoid with plant-only aquascapes; safe with fish and shrimp.
