Glaniopsis hanitschi
Also known as: Spiny Hillstream Loach, Hanitsch's Hillstream Loach
Origin: Borneo
Glaniopsis hanitschi is an unusual hillstream loach from the fast rivers of northern Borneo, distinguished by small spiny or tuberculate structures along its body margins that may play a role in adhesion or mate choice. One of the more demanding hillstream species in the hobby, it requires consistently cool, clean water with the highest flow rates and is best attempted only by experienced hillstream aquarists.
Water: 20-24°C, pH 6.5-7.5, clean, well-oxygenated, very strong flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, large rough boulders and smooth pebbles, high-flow pump. Feeding: Biofilm, algae wafers, blanched courgette and spinach. Behaviour: Active in strong current; hides in crevices under reduced flow. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable with Gastromyzon and small Danio species.
