Manonichthys splendens
Origin: Western Pacific
Manonichthys splendens is a rarely seen dottyback from the Western Pacific displaying gorgeous patterning of dark purple with electric blue spots and fin margins. A secretive cave-dwelling species, it requires ample hiding places in the aquarium to feel secure and express its natural behaviour. Its rarity and stunning colouration make it highly sought after by advanced reef keepers.
Provide abundant live rock with caves and deep crevices for shelter. Feed mysis shrimp, chopped frozen seafood, and quality carnivore blends. Semi-aggressive towards conspecifics and similar-shaped fish; keep one per tank unless a bonded pair is available. Reef-safe with corals. Allow time for acclimatisation to the aquarium — may hide for days before becoming visible.
