Yasuhikotakia splendida
Origin: Thailand, Laos (Mekong and Chao Phraya basins)
Yasuhikotakia splendida is a beautifully patterned loach from the Mekong and Chao Phraya river systems of Thailand and Laos, displaying an intricate network of dark reticulated markings over a golden-orange body. Like most botia-type loaches, it is sociable and should be kept in groups of at least five individuals to thrive. This active species benefits from a spacious aquarium with hiding spots among rocks and driftwood.
Keep in groups of 5 or more — solitary specimens become stressed and reclusive. Provide ample caves, driftwood, and smooth rocks for shelter and loach clique behaviour. Feed a varied omnivore diet: quality sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and occasional snails. Maintain warm water (24–29°C) with moderate to strong flow. Compatible with large, robust community fish; may be nippy with slow-moving, long-finned species.
