Ptereleotris heteroptera
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Ptereleotris heteroptera (Spot-tail Dartfish) is a graceful, elongated dartfish with a pale sky-blue body and a distinctive black spot at the base of its deeply forked tail. It hovers in the mid-water column, darting swiftly to a burrow entrance when startled. Best kept as a mated pair or small group with a fine sandy substrate and a tight-fitting lid to prevent the inevitable jumping.
Provide fine sand substrate for burrow construction. Keep as a mated pair or small group of 3–5. Feed mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality frozen zooplankton preparations. Extremely tight-fitting lid essential — this species will jump when startled. Peaceful and reef-safe; compatible with most non-aggressive marine fish. Provide ample open swimming space in the middle water column.
