Chiloglanis ornatus
Origin: Congo basin, Cameroon
Chiloglanis ornatus, the Spotted African Leaf Catfish, is a small suckermouth catfish from fast-flowing rivers in Congo and Cameroon. Its flattened body and intricate mottled colouration provide perfect camouflage against leaf litter. Unlike hillstream loaches it uses its suckered mouth to cling to rocks in fast flow, feeding on aufwuchs and small invertebrates. Rarely offered in the hobby, it is a prized species for Central African biotope enthusiasts. Peaceful with all appropriately-sized tank mates.
Moderate to strong flow. Temperature 22–26 °C, soft to medium acidic water. Smooth rocks and leaf litter substrate. Feed algae wafers, sinking meaty pellets, and frozen bloodworm. Sensitive to poor water quality — low nitrates essential.
