Origin: New Guinea, Northern Australia
Pseudomugil gertrudae is a tiny rainbowfish from New Guinea and northern Australia. Males have brilliantly elongated dorsal and anal fins tipped in gold and white, with the characteristic blue iridescent eyes of the genus. It is active and peaceful, though males may display and spar harmlessly among themselves.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.5–7.8, soft to moderately hard (GH 5–15). Tank: 20 L minimum; planted with fine-leaved plants and open swimming area. Feeding: Micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Daphnia, Cyclops, crushed flake. Behaviour: Active schooler; males display to each other; keep 1 male per 2–3 females. Compatibility: Compatible with peaceful nano fish and shrimp; avoid fin nippers.
