Gastromyzon punctulatus
Also known as: Spotted Gastromyzon Hillstream Loach, Spotted Hillstream Sucker
Origin: Borneo
Gastromyzon punctulatus is characterised by fine punctuated spots across a pale tan dorsal surface, giving it a delicate speckled appearance. Like all Gastromyzon species, it is completely dependent on strong water flow and high dissolved oxygen, and it will decline rapidly in still, warm or polluted water. In an appropriate hillstream biotope it is highly active and rewarding to observe.
Water: 22-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, very strong turbulent flow, high oxygen. Tank: Minimum 80 L, bare-bottom or smooth pebbles, powerhead current. Feeding: Biofilm, algae wafers, spirulina, blanched courgette and spinach. Behaviour: Diurnal; actively forages and glides across rock and glass surfaces. Compatibility: Peaceful; best with Gastromyzon relatives and small hillstream species.
