Chilodus punctatus

Origin: South America (Amazon and Orinoco basins)
Chilodus punctatus, the Spotted Headstander, is native to the Amazon and Orinoco basins and is named for its characteristic feeding posture — head angled 45 degrees downward while picking at algae, detritus, and biofilm. Its cream-white body is decorated with a mosaic of brown spots and a dark lateral stripe. A peaceful and interesting species that adds behavioural diversity to community aquariums.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 5.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 120 L minimum; well-planted with open areas; smooth rocks and driftwood for grazing surfaces. Feeding: Accepts algae wafers, blanched vegetables, small frozen invertebrates, and sinking pellets. Behaviour: Peaceful; schooling tendencies; distinctive head-down feeding posture at all times. Compatibility: Good with medium-sized peaceful community fish; avoid aggressive species.
