Sewellia sp. 'spotted'
Also known as: Spotted Hillstream Loach, Spotted Sewellia
Origin: Vietnam
Sewellia sp. 'spotted' is a naturally occurring variant or closely related Sewellia species from the Mekong drainage, characterised by discrete dark spots rather than a net-like reticulated pattern. Its care requirements match those of S. lineolata, and the two can often be kept together in spacious hillstream biotopes. Highly active in well-maintained setups, it will graze openly on exposed rock surfaces.
Water: 20-24°C, pH 7.0-8.0, highly oxygenated, powerful directional flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, large smooth boulders, powerhead, sparse decor. Feeding: Biofilm grazer; supplement algae wafers, spirulina, blanched courgette. Behaviour: Diurnal and active; males display and spar on open rock territories. Compatibility: Peaceful; good with hillstream fish, small rasborids.
