Amblyeleotris guttata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Spotted Prawn Goby (Amblyeleotris guttata) has a distinctive white body covered in small orange dots and blue-edged fin markings, giving it a jewel-like appearance. It partners with Alpheid pistol shrimp in a captivating mutualistic symbiosis — the shrimp excavates and maintains the burrow while the goby acts as a lookout, warning the shrimp of danger. Hardy and well-suited to beginner marine setups.
Provide fine aragonite sand (5+ cm depth) for burrow construction. If possible, introduce a compatible Alpheid pistol shrimp (Alpheus randalli) simultaneously for the full symbiotic display. Feed mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality frozen carnivore preparations twice daily. Peaceful and reef-safe; compatible with most non-aggressive reef fish. Ensure a tight-fitting lid — will jump when startled.
