Planorbella sp. (spotted morph)
Also known as: Spotted Ramshorn Snail
Origin: Americas (selectively bred)
The Spotted Ramshorn features an eye-catching pattern of dark pigment spots on a lighter shell, giving it a more naturalistic appearance compared to solid-colour morphs. It grazes algae and detritus with the same enthusiasm, making it ideal for planted tanks where a subtle, natural aesthetic is desired.
Water: 18–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0; moderate calcium hardness needed to maintain shell integrity. Tank: Minimum 20L; planted or heavily decorated tanks with ample grazing surfaces are ideal. Feeding: Algae, biofilm, decomposing leaves, and supplemental algae wafers or blanched greens. Behaviour: Peaceful and continuously active; grazes surfaces without damaging healthy plant tissue. Compatibility: Mixes well with all peaceful community species; avoid invertebrate predators.
