About

Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps is a large, spectacular loricariid renowned for its magnificent, multi-rayed sail-like dorsal fin and intricate brown-and-tan spotted pattern. Native to the Amazon basin, it is a robust herbivore that grazes on algae and biofilm. Despite its impressive size, it is generally peaceful and suitable for large community aquariums.

Care Guide

Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, adaptable to moderate hardness; good filtration essential. Tank: Minimum 400L; large driftwood; robust aquascape it cannot easily disturb. Feeding: Herbivore; algae wafers, large blanched vegetables, driftwood, spirulina pellets. Behaviour: Nocturnal; peaceful but large enough to displace decor; heavy waste producer. Compatibility: Large community tanks and cichlid setups; avoid keeping with other large plecos.
