Naso brevirostris
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Spotted Unicornfish is a large, distinctive surgeonfish with a pale gray body covered in small dark spots and a prominent bony horn above the snout in adults. Less commonly kept than other Naso species, it requires significant space due to its powerful, continuous swimming. In the wild it forms large migratory schools over reef slopes and open water. In captivity a single specimen thrives in very large systems with robust, similarly sized companions.
Requires a minimum 700 L aquarium with strong flow and extensive open swimming space. Feed a varied diet heavy in marine algae, nori, Spirulina, and frozen mysis or krill. Provide hiding spots among rockwork. Acclimate carefully and watch for ich stress during introduction. Avoid small, easily intimidated tank mates despite its generally peaceful disposition.
