Cirrhilabrus squirei
Origin: Coral Sea, Australia
Cirrhilabrus squirei is a recently described fairy wrasse from Australia's Coral Sea, with terminal males displaying a vivid magenta-red body, yellow posterior, and iridescent blue-margined fins. Its restricted range and collection depth make wild specimens relatively scarce, adding to its appeal as a collector species. Like most fairy wrasses it is active and peaceful, spending the day swimming in the open water column and retreating to rockwork at night.
Keep in groups of one male with several females to diffuse aggression and trigger full male coloration. Provide a well-established reef with open swimming space and a tight-fitting lid as fairy wrasses are prone to jumping. Feed frozen mysis, copepods, and small Artemia multiple times daily. Avoid housing with larger aggressive fish.
