Rivulus stagnatus
Also known as: Stagnant Killifish, Stagnant Rivulus
Origin: Lowland South America
Rivulus stagnatus is a small and adaptable non-annual killifish from stagnant pools and slow-moving waters across lowland South America. Males display orange-red spots on a brown-olive body, and like many Rivulus, are capable of surviving out of water briefly, making an escape-proof lid essential. It is one of the easier South American killifish to maintain, tolerating a range of water parameters.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 30 L species tank; floating plants; very tight-fitting lid essential (notorious jumpers). Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm; dried foods accepted. Behaviour: Generally peaceful; males may spar mildly with rivals. Compatibility: Can keep with similarly sized peaceful fish; avoid very small nano fish.
