About

Steatocranus casuarius, the Blockhead or Lionhead Cichlid, is a rheophilic (fast-water) cichlid native to the Congo River rapids. Males develop a large fatty nuchal hump on the forehead. They are benthic, hop-swimming fish that prefer current. Monogamous cave spawners with excellent parental care.

Care Guide

Provide strong water flow, smooth rocks and pebbles to simulate rapids habitat. At least 100 L for a pair. Feed sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, and vegetable matter. Peaceful toward dissimilar fish but territorial with conspecifics. Avoid slow-water setups.
