Betta albimarginata
Also known as: Strawberry Betta, White-seam Fighter
Origin: Borneo (Indonesia/Malaysia)
Betta albimarginata is a paternal mouthbrooder from the blackwater peat swamp streams of northeast Borneo. Males carry eggs and fry in their mouths until release. Requiring extremely soft, acidic water to thrive, this species is best suited to a dedicated blackwater species tank with leaf litter and driftwood.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 4.0–6.5, very soft (0–4 GH), blackwater with tannins essential. Tank: 30L minimum, dim lighting, dense leaf litter and fine-leaved plants. Feeding: Live micro-invertebrates strongly preferred; may accept frozen daphnia. Behaviour: Males mouthbrood; relatively peaceful toward other species. Compatibility: Species tank or with very small, peaceful blackwater fish.
