Aulonocara sp. 'Strawberry'
Also known as: Strawberry Peacock, Strawberry Aulonocara
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa (captive-bred hybrid)
The Strawberry Peacock is a selectively bred hybrid Aulonocara strain prized for its pastel pink-to-salmon colouration, distinct from the more saturated red hybrids. Males display blue iridescence on the unpaired fins and egg spots on the anal fin. It is hardy and adaptable, making it one of the more beginner-friendly peacock options.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water; stable parameters are important. Tank: Minimum 200L; sandy substrate with open areas and perimeter rockwork. Feeding: Quality cichlid pellets plus occasional frozen mysis; avoid food high in artificial colour enhancers. Behaviour: Peaceful toward most tankmates; males establish a loose territory over sandy areas. Compatibility: Excellent for peacock/hap community tanks; avoid aggressive mbuna.
