Boraras naevus
Also known as: Strawberry Rasbora, Spot Rasbora
Origin: Peninsular Malaysia, Southern Thailand
Boraras naevus — commonly known as the Strawberry Rasbora — hails from blackwater streams in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand. Its pinkish-red body and striking black spot make it visually distinct from other Boraras species. Like all Boraras, it demands very soft, acidic water and performs best with tannin-stained conditions.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.0–6.5, very soft (GH 1–6); use peat filtration or Indian almond leaves. Tank: 20 L minimum; blackwater setup with leaf litter and dense planting. Feeding: Micro foods only — baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, and fine micro pellets. Behaviour: Peaceful schooler; keep 8–12 for natural confidence and group displays. Compatibility: Compatible with Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp; pair with other Boraras or nano tetras.
