Also known as: Strigata Pike Cichlid, Amazon Pike Cichlid
Origin: South America
Crenicichla strigata is a medium-large pike cichlid native to the Amazon basin. Its horizontally striped body and characteristic tail ocellus make it one of the more visually appealing pike cichlid species. Despite its predatory nature, it can be kept with large robust fish that are too big to eat.
Water: 25-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to slightly hard water. Tank: Minimum 350L, large flat stones and driftwood for territory, plenty of swimming space. Feeding: Carnivore; live or frozen fish, large prawn, mussels, quality large carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Aggressive predator; will eat anything that fits in its mouth. Compatibility: Species-only or with very large, equally aggressive fish.
