Trigonectes strigabundus
Also known as: Striped South American Killifish, Strigabundus Killifish
Origin: Central Brazil
Trigonectes strigabundus is a non-annual killifish from the rivers and streams of central Brazil. Its elongated, streamlined body is marked with elegant dark horizontal stripes and a subtle golden sheen. Unlike most killifish covered here, it is a non-annual species and somewhat more tolerant of community settings, though it still requires soft, acidic water and should not be housed with very small fish it may consume.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft and slightly acidic. Tank: 40 L planted tank; floating plants; tight-fitting lid (active jumper). Feeding: Live and frozen invertebrates; dried foods accepted with acclimatisation. Behaviour: Generally peaceful with other species; males mildly territorial. Compatibility: Can keep with similar-sized peaceful fish; avoid tiny nano species.
