Caridina spongicola
Also known as: Sulawesi Harlequin Shrimp, Harlequin Shrimp
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Caridina spongicola, the Harlequin Shrimp, is one of the most ornately patterned freshwater shrimp in existence, bearing a complex mosaic of white, red, and black colouration across its small body. In nature it associates closely with freshwater sponges in Sulawesi lake caves. It is among the most demanding Sulawesi species due to its very specific warm, alkaline, hard water requirements and sensitivity to nitrates. Breeding is rare in captivity.

Feeding: biofilm; supplement with powdered coral shrimp food and soft algae. Behaviour: extremely peaceful; cryptic; found near rocks and cave entrances.
