Caridina glaubrechti
Also known as: White Glove Shrimp, Sulawesi White Glove Shrimp
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Caridina glaubrechti, the White Glove Shrimp, is one of several spectacular shrimp endemic to the ancient lakes of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its defining feature is the brilliant white colouration on the tips of its claws, contrasting with a semi-transparent body that may display subtle red or orange tones. Like all Sulawesi shrimp, it requires warm, hard, alkaline water that mimics the unique chemistry of its native lake environment — standard freshwater parameters will cause rapid decline.
Water: 27–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5, TDS 200–350, GH 8–15, KH 4–8; Sulawesi mineral salts. Tank: minimum 30 L, limestone rocks, smooth pebbles, minimal flow. Feeding: biofilm, soft algae, powdered shrimp food; biofilm is critical. Behaviour: peaceful and slow-moving; hides in rock crevices. Compatibility: Sulawesi species-only tank; no fish; snails from same lake origin.
