Sundadanio axelrodi
Also known as: Blue Axelrod Rasbora, Axelrod's Rasbora, Neon Blue Rasbora
Origin: Sumatra, Borneo, Indonesia
Sundadanio axelrodi is found in the peat swamp forests of Sumatra and Borneo in extremely soft, acidic blackwater. Under proper aquarium lighting, the males display intense metallic blue-green upper body colouration with red lower flanks. Multiple colour variants (blue, red, green) are known from different populations.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.0–6.5, very soft (GH 0–5); Indian almond leaves and peat recommended. Tank: 20 L minimum; blackwater biotope setup; dark substrate and tannin-stained water. Feeding: Micro foods — baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro pellets; two small feeds daily. Behaviour: Peaceful active schooler; keep 10+ for best colouration in males. Compatibility: Nano shrimp, other Boraras, CPD; avoid all but the most peaceful tank mates.
