Scobinancistrus aureatus
Origin: Rio Xingu, Brazil
Scobinancistrus aureatus, the Sunshine Pleco (L014), is a striking loricariid from the Rio Xingu covered in bright yellow spots on a rich dark brown body — like golden sunshine through dark water. It is a predominantly herbivorous/omnivorous species that accepts algae wafers, fresh vegetables, and sinking meaty pellets. Medium-large for an ornamental L-number, reaching 30 cm. Highly sought by L-number enthusiasts. Most specimens are captive-bred in Europe.
Temperature 26–30 °C, strong flow, good oxygenation. Sandy/gravel substrate with driftwood for grazing. Feed algae wafers, blanched courgette, sinking omnivore pellets, occasional frozen bloodworm. Low nitrates (<20 ppm). Peaceful with most fish.
