Chromis insolata
Origin: Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico
Chromis insolata is a striking golden-yellow chromis from the deeper reef slopes of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, named for its sun-like coloration. A mid-water schooling species, it feeds primarily on zooplankton swept along by reef currents and is entirely reef-safe. Groups of six or more create a spectacular, shimmering golden display in larger reef aquariums. Relatively rare compared to its Pacific relatives, it is prized for its vivid color and easy care.
Keep in groups of 6 or more to encourage natural schooling and reduce individual stress. Provide open swimming space in the upper-middle water column. Feed multiple small portions daily of frozen Artemia, mysis, copepods, and quality marine pellets. Peaceful and compatible with almost all reef species. Acclimate carefully on introduction; Chromis can be sensitive to poor water quality during the first weeks.
