Atyopsis moluccensis
Origin: Southeast Asia
The Cream Supershrimp is a color variant of Atyopsis moluccensis, the popular Bamboo or Wood Shrimp, distinguished by its soft cream to pale beige coloration. Like all members of this group, it feeds by holding out feathery fan-like front claws to intercept suspended microparticles and organic matter in the water column, making it a fascinating, animated filter feeder to observe. Completely peaceful, it poses no threat to any tank inhabitants and will be harmed by even mildly aggressive fish.
Position near a moderate flow area — powerhead outlet, filter outflow, or circulation pump — so suspended particles reach the feeding fans. Supplement with liquid invertebrate food, Spirulina powder, or fine dried foods added directly to the current near the shrimp. Avoid strong substrate filtration that removes the particulate food it needs. Provide driftwood and rocks as perching platforms in the current. Never use copper-based treatments.
