About

Puntius chola is broadly distributed across the river systems of India and Myanmar, inhabiting ponds, swamps, slow rivers, and paddy fields across a wide climatic range. Its silvery body bears faint barring and pale reddish tints on the fins in males. It is one of the most adaptable and undemanding barb species available, making it an excellent choice for beginners seeking a peaceful, low-maintenance schooling cyprinid.

Care Guide

Water: 18–28°C, pH 6.0–8.0, very wide hardness tolerance (GH 5–25). Tank: 80 L minimum; tolerates almost any community setup. Feeding: Omnivore; readily accepts any commercial flake, pellet, or frozen food. Behaviour: Peaceful active schooler; keep in groups of 6+. Compatibility: Excellent community fish; compatible with virtually all peaceful freshwater species.
