Liopropoma eukrines
Origin: Western Atlantic, Carolinas to Caribbean
Liopropoma eukrines is the Atlantic counterpart to Liopropoma rubre, ranging from the Carolinas south through the Caribbean. It displays richly contrasting red and yellowish-white horizontal stripes and inhabits rocky ledges and deepwater caves, making it shy but exceptionally long-lived as an aquarium specimen. Excellent rockwork with multiple cave entrances is essential to its comfort and willingness to feed.
Provide dense, complex rockwork with several cave options at different depths. Feed frozen meaty foods near cave entrances — mysis shrimp, krill, frozen amphipods. Allow a quiet settling period of 1–2 weeks before disturbing the tank. Reef-safe toward corals. Avoid very aggressive tank mates that may prevent it from feeding. Water quality must be excellent and consistent.
