Liopropoma rubre
Origin: Caribbean Sea, Western Atlantic
The Swissguard Basslet (Liopropoma rubre) is a stunning Caribbean deepwater fish with distinctive alternating yellow and red-purple horizontal stripes running the full length of its body. Like the Candy Basslet, it is a secretive cave-dweller that requires rocky crevices and overhangs in the aquarium to feel secure. A peaceful species rarely aggressive toward other fish, it is highly prized among marine collectors for its unique and vivid pattern.
Provide complex rockwork with multiple caves and ledges. Feed meaty frozen foods including mysis, krill, and chopped marine invertebrates near cave openings. Reef-safe toward corals and most invertebrates; may target very small shrimp. Introduce to an established, mature reef system. Avoid very active or aggressive tank mates that may stress this shy species.
