The Swordtail Platy Hybrid is an aquarium-produced cross between Xiphophorus hellerii (swordtail) and X. maculatus (platy), combining traits from both parents. Individual fish vary widely in colour and fin shape, making each specimen unique. They are extremely hardy, prolific, and easy to care for — perfect for beginners setting up a livebearer community.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard; hard water preferred. Tank: 60L minimum, planted tank with open swimming space, gentle current. Feeding: Omnivore — flake, pellets, frozen daphnia; grazes algae and plant matter. Behaviour: Peaceful and active; males may chase females — keep ratio of 2 females per male. Compatibility: Excellent with other livebearers, tetras, corydoras.
