Corydoras sychri
Also known as: Sychri Cory, Slender-stripe Cory
Origin: Peru (Amazon tributaries)
Corydoras sychri is a slender, graceful cory from the Peruvian Amazon, identified by a faint but clearly defined lateral stripe running from behind the operculum to the caudal fin base, with additional scattered dark spots and mottling on the flanks. The dorsal fin has a dark leading edge and the body has a pale silvery ground colour with a slight iridescent sheen.
This species originates from clear-water tributaries of the Peruvian Amazon where water is soft, slightly acidic, and warm. It is an active fish in the aquarium and, like C. elegans, is frequently seen swimming in the mid-water column in addition to its bottom-foraging activities. This makes it more visible and engaging than many strictly benthic cories.
C. sychri is rarely exported and primarily of interest to specialist cory collectors. Once established in appropriate soft-water conditions, it is a rewarding, long-lived fish. Keep in groups of six or more, provide a fine substrate, and maintain high water quality for best results.
Water: Soft and slightly acidic, pH 5.8–7.0, temperature 23–27°C; sensitive to poor water quality. Tank: 60 L with fine sand, moderate planting, and gentle to moderate filtration. Feeding: Sinking micro-granules, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and Mysis shrimp. Breeding: Rarely achieved in captivity; soft water conditioning and cool water trigger likely necessary. Compatibility: Peaceful with all suitable soft-water community species.
