Sympodium sp.
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Sympodium sp. grows as a thin, steadily spreading encrusting mat of small eight-tentacled polyps in shades of blue-grey to soft lavender, creating a living tapestry across rock surfaces. Unlike most soft corals, it remains extremely low-profile and flat against the substrate rather than raising into branching or bulbous forms. This growth habit makes it an excellent aquascaping coral for filling and texturing rock surfaces without competing aggressively with neighbours.
Place on open rock surfaces in low to moderate flow with low to medium lighting. Photosynthetic — no regular supplemental feeding required, though dissolved amino acids support growth. Grows steadily — monitor expansion to prevent it from encroaching on neighboring corals. Fragging is simple: cut pieces of rock or substrate and place in desired locations. Stable parameters are key.
