Ecsenius stigmatura
Origin: Philippines, Western Pacific
Ecsenius stigmatura, the Tail-spot Blenny, is named for the distinctive black spot at the base of its tail, set against a pale, subtly patterned body. Found in the Philippines and Western Pacific, it is an endearing nano reef fish that spends its time perching on rocks and rubble, darting to graze algae and biofilm from hard surfaces. Its small adult size and entertaining personality make it particularly well-suited to nano and small reef aquariums.
Provide a mature reef tank with algae-covered rocks to graze. Supplement with dried nori and Spirulina wafers if natural algae is limited. Keep singly unless the tank is large — territorial toward other Ecsenius blennies. Reef-safe and compatible with corals and most invertebrates. May occasionally nip at the polyps of clams or other large-polyp corals; monitor in SPS/clam tanks. Hardy and easy to care for.
