About

This combtooth blenny from the Indo-Pacific shares the typical Ecsenius body plan: a streamlined form with large comb-like teeth adapted for grazing turf algae and biofilm from hard rock surfaces. It is one of the more visible and active blenny species in the aquarium, regularly perching in exposed positions on rockwork rather than hiding. This makes it an entertaining, always-visible display animal and effective algae management solution for reef aquariums of all sizes.

Care Guide

Provide a reef tank with algae-covered rock surfaces to graze. Supplement with dried nori and algae wafers. Keep singly unless the aquarium is very large. Reef-safe toward corals; may occasionally investigate large-polyp corals or clams. Hardy and adaptable. Offer meaty supplemental foods (frozen mysis) to round out its diet.
