About

Moenkhausia dichroura, the Tailspot Moenkhausia, is a sturdy and attractive tetra from the Paraná and Paraguay river systems of South America, distinguished by a large, prominent black spot at the base of the tail that contrasts vividly against its silver body. Hardy, tolerant of a range of water parameters, and gregarious in nature, it is an excellent tetra for beginner aquarists seeking a robust and reliably active schooling species for community tanks.

Care Guide

Keep in groups of 6 or more in a spacious tank with open swimming areas and some planted zones for contrast. Feed quality flake, micro-pellets, and frozen foods including Artemia and bloodworm. Hardy across a range of conditions; soft, slightly acidic to neutral water produces the best coloration. Compatible with most community fish of comparable size.
